Purple Pincushion flower is a delightful addition to my dye garden bringing many a possibility of color including shades of purple, green, slate blue and pink from the dark purple petals. Scabiosa (or pincushion flower as it is commonly known) contains a dye component in the anthocyanin family of plant dyes allowing it a flexibility and playful nature as many other dyestuffs in this family like red cabbage, red rose, many edible berries, and red onion skins. Pincushion flowers come in a variety of colors, but the dark purple or ‘black knight’ colored type packs a potent tinting punch. The flowers are picked throughout the flowering season of late spring and summer and dry nicely for saving to make a dye bath when needed. The whole plant stalk can also be used to produce yellows & tans on all natural fibers. This flower dye is aptly suited for bundle dyes (my favorite use for them) or making plant paint! Instructions on germinating, growing, and harvesting your scabiosa plants are included with your seed order. Sow indoors 6 weeks before the last threat of frost in your area for a jump start on the season to give yourself the longest flowering and picking season.

Each packet contains approximately 75 seeds. Worldwide shipping cost included in price.
